There are a few things everyone on the planet can agree on: ice cream is amazing, water is wet, and nothing beats your favorite pair of jeans. However, we do notice that not everyone has an easy time picking that pair of jeans, nor does everyone agree on how to take care of them. Since we have a team of denim experts at hand here, we thought we'd share some of their know-how to help you along the way.
To wash or not to wash?
The recommendation to never wash your jeans is generally for "raw denim".
The idea is that the jeans will be perfected by the owner while they are being worn, and a rough machine wash program will disrupt this process.
We're sure you've already heard a million opinions. From « never ever wash your jeans! » to « just throw in the washing machine every single time! ». Now what's best? Well, simple common sense, if you ask us. It's true that laundering will break down the denim and cause the dye to fade, but the buildup of sweat and dirt will also cause the exact same thing - only less visible. Everything depends on how much you've worn them and what you've been doing in them. If they smell, are visibly dirty, or have gotten stretched out, the time's probably right. In general, a wash every ten wears seems reasonable and will save a lot of water.
Got a stain? Use a damp cloth or old toothbrush with mild soap to remove it. See those lines and creases on your old jeans, the ones specific to you? Those come from wearing your jeans for longer periods without washing them.
