- Mohair wool comes from Angora goats, originally from Tibet and now found all over the world.
- Angora goats are sheared once to twice a year for their mohair and the wool is then cleaned and spun into yarn.
- When it comes to washing mohair, you need to go carefully. Because it's an elastic fabric, it can warp and misshape very easily. Mohair is also sensitive to temperature and motion. Hot water or spinning might cause mohair to shrink.
- Hand wash your mohair item in lukewarm water using baby shampoo or a mild detergent that's specifically designed for fragile fibers.
- Stains can be removed by soaking the sweater in the water with a mild detergent for a few minutes (5 minutes max).
- Place your knit between two towels and roll them without twisting to absorb excess water.
- Lay flat to dry in a well-ventilated room.
- Do not keep mohair garments on hangers. Keep them in a dry and cool place folded on a shelf and Use cedar blocks to keep moths at bay.
- If you've stored you mohair garment in a vacuum seal bag during the warmer months, fluff it up by lightly shaking it.
